Mechanical
Mechanical is responsible for the parts outside of the main body (the tube), as well as the support inside. Its goal is to improve the capabilities of the sub’s hardware as well as help maintain the sub in its working capacity. In the past, Mechanical made the acrylic structure that supports the components added by electrical. It also made the carriage that wheels the sub around. This year, we replaced the wooden base that supports the sub with a metallic one. This is to hopefully ensure that it would last more than the last one did. Mechanical is also in the process of making handle bars for the carriage, which would make it easier to push the sub.
The tube is an acryllic tube that is designed to be watertight. It has two end caps that seal it and prevent water from going in. One of the end caps has a glass dome in order for the cameras to see. The other is linked to the electronics inside, allowing wires to supply power to the engines and the kill switch.
The acryllic structure is two stories. The 1st story mainly holds the batteries, while the 2nd story holds the beagle board, the control board, and the power transformer. It is attached to more acryllic, which holds the cameras and the compass.
The cart has four wheels, two axles connected by two metal rods. It has two screws in each end to hold the base while the cart is moving. The base was wooden, but will be replaced with one made of metal rods.
