Mechanical is responsible for the parts outside of the main body (the tube), as well as the support inside. Its goal is to improve the capabilities of the sub’s hardware and to help maintain the sub in its working capacity. This year in mechanical, we took advantage of recently donated CAD software and both a laser cutter and a 3D printer available at our school. These additional resources allowed us to create more complex and precise designs than were possible last year, and removed many limitations on the parts that we are able to create.

This year, we redesigned most of the mechanical components—the only parts from last year's sub are the dome, the back end cap, and the motors. Using the CAD software, we are able to design, create, and test new components such as the rack and the grabber easily, as well as save our designs for future club members to remake and improve.
