DVLs are advanced navigation sensors that combine velocity, acceleration, and gryo sensor data to position a vehicle underwater. While we are currently able to navigate our AUV using pressure sensors, AHRS, and Hydrophones, the precision of DVL hardware has the potential to increase our efficiency and consistency by a factor of two.
With more than two years of active usage through, testing, calibrating, optimizing, and competing, Marlin's robust set of eight VideoRay M5 Thrusters are deservant of an upgrade. Any AUV is heavily dependent on its propsulsion system being consistent and ready to use. We are currently looking into more powerful and capable thruster options.
As a part of the RoboSub course, AUVs need a sophisticated torpedo system. Our previous torpedoes were subpar due to a wide range of inconsistencies, thus we have remodeled our system this year. Improvements include a redesigned torpedo and more effective integration of linear actuators.
Enclosure for DVL
DVL requires a custom waterproof enclosure. The designs are complete, but we lack the funds to fabricate this part.
The success of our AUV this year heavily depends upon the manipulation of golf balls. In order to surmount these tasks, we have developed a unique system in order to grab, sort, and dispense golf balls. With proper funding for this system, our team would be able to perform demonstrably better in the competition.
