AUVSI RoboSub Competition
The AUVSI RoboSub Competition is a college-level competition for autonomous submarines. It was started in 1998 with only four competitors. Since then, it has grown to include about thirty teams, with many international entrants. In 2000, Amador Valley High School entered as the first continuously competing high school.
The TRANSDEC facility in San Diego, California has hosted the competition in recent years. It is a naval testing pool, designed as anechoic to simulate an infinite body of water.
In the competition, vehicles face challenges designed to simulate real-world tasks for robots: passing through gates, identifying colors and shapes, following pipelines, launching projectiles, and finding an acoustic pinger. For more information about the tasks, please refer to the 2011 RoboSub Rules and Mission.
